It’s finally April, a time to really start looking at all the outdoor activities and warmer weather. April is where we start putting away the winter clothing while starting to enjoy green grass, and flowering plants, gardens and the feel of the sun’s warmth.

One of the best things for many homeowners is being able to relax out on a lush, green lawn. Thirty million acres of turf across the nation is now turning green and growing. The bar-b-que grills are being unpacked and the trampolines spruced up. So are the lawn mowers, edgers, aerators, and blowers. We all know that a healthy lawn makes all of our outdoor activities that much more enjoyable.

Now is the time to get the pre-emergent on the lawn to fight things like Crabgrass. It is also to the time to get your lawn fed so it gets a good jump start well before the heat of summer hits.  Consider these other benefits of having a healthy lawn:

1.  A well cared for lawn can significantly increase property values.

2.  A healthy lawn is of utmost importance to our environment. A 50- foot by 50-foot lawn produces                  enough oxygen for a family of four.

3.  Lawns cool the atmosphere. Eight average sized healthy front lawns have the cooling effect of 70 tons of      air conditioning, which is enough for 16 average homes.

4.  Grass converts carbon dioxide to oxygen, a process that helps clear the air.

Thick, healthy grass slows water runoff, removing contaminants and trapping soil. The roots of grass also provide a natural filler, allowing cleaner water to return to the underground water supply.
